While smart locks are gaining traction worldwide, their success heavily depends on traditional components like the lock cylinder and body. Many smart lock designs now use upgraded mechanical cylinders to provide emergency manual access in case of system failure.
“Smart doesn’t mean weak,” explains Emily Zhang, head of R&D at a leading lock company. “We’re integrating biometric tech and remote control functions, but still rely on strong mechanical lock bodies and high-security cylinders for the foundation.”
This hybrid approach ensures security, reliability, and flexibility—especially in markets where tech adoption is rising but traditional habits persist.
